Now this is a sweet secret, OP. What a great way to start the page.

[identity profile] edge-chan.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Where I work, I always have calls from assholes as well, but every time I get a man/woman telling me I did an awesome job and gave me the thanks for helping him/her, is a wonderful feeling and they meant to me as well =) Thanks for this sweet secret, OP.

[identity profile] aeonamber.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a lovely secret. <3 Everyone likes to feel appreciated; it's a great feeling.

[identity profile] jlh.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's really great! Working those kinds of jobs is often pretty thankless. It's unfortunate that these days someone being polite and gracious stands out, but there it is.

Hey OP!

(Anonymous) 2010-09-21 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Just wondering, what were you doing when the lady thanked you?

[identity profile] caelith.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww (:

It's always nice to be thanked when you're surrounded by people who look right through you.

(Anonymous) 2010-09-21 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for working Comic Con. It's become so huge in the past few years. To think that you've been around for eight of them. You deserve kudos!

[identity profile] squeedunk.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
There need to be more not-assholes in the world. Nobody should treat you like dirt when you're doing them a service. Anyways, nice secret OP!

OP...

(Anonymous) 2010-09-21 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
If you were working on Friday in the big ballroom, that was me. And sincerely, thanks again. You were doing a great job, with so much poise and patience.

And if it's not you, thank you in any case. I met so many great people working at that con, so many people who worked so hard to keep everything going smoothly. It wouldn't go so well without any of you, so again, thank you.

Re: OP...

(Anonymous) 2010-09-21 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
No, thank you. If it weren't for hardworking people like you, there wouldn't be a con for all of us to enjoy.

Re: OP...

(Anonymous) 2010-09-21 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
No, sorry, I'm not the OP. I meant I was the one who thanked them. I made a point to talk to and thank the staff at SDCC this year, since it was so crazy and they were doing a great job.

[identity profile] sarolynne.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think that's unreasonable at all. Seriously, I think everyone has days where just a little show of politeness just brightens everything. Especially if you don't usually get a lot of it.

[identity profile] onceinspired.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It's nothing to be embarrassed about, OP. Customer service employees don't hear those kinds of compliments enough.

[identity profile] novemberangel28.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
You have an awesome job. Just sayin'.

[identity profile] annaham.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
AWWWWW. :)

(Anonymous) 2010-09-21 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It's totally understandable that this meant a lot to you. As someone who has worked a lot of retail, having people tell me that they appreciated what I was doing was really wonderful. It helped make the job less mind-numbing.

[identity profile] amiraelizabeth.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I've been going to SDCC for a few years now. I try to thank people as much as I can because I appreciate their hard work and kindness in making the con easy and enjoyable.

[identity profile] caterfree10.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
No such thing as appreciating that too much, love. I'm sure in a job as stressful as working for a large con like SDCC needs at least some goodness in it and if that lady helped you with that, then appreciate her as much as you need. :3

[identity profile] i-paint-the-sky.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Having worked a convention myself, I always try to let con staff know that they are appreciated because I understand how hard they are working. A special shout-out always goes to the volunteers at Toronto's FanExpo ... there are never enough of you guys but the ones that are there work their asses off (and apparently don't even get fed! Travesty!).

[identity profile] netbug009.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
That's not silly anon! I can't blame you for appreciating that. Helping run SDCC sounds fun but REALLY hard, not to mention all the drama last year from the "stabbing"

(Anonymous) 2010-09-22 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
This secret is kind of lovely, OP. <3333

And now I'm going to break the mood and say, how does one get a job at a huge convention like SDCC?

(Anonymous) 2010-09-22 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, OP, I feel you. It's so much more common for people to complain than to be kind to those working in any kind of customer service industry that when someone is nice it can take you totally by surprise. I've worked in restaurants for years, and get so used to either indifference or nastiness that when someone is nice and appreciative of my work I almost don't know how to respond or what to do with myself.
