The song isn't about literal candy, but uses candy as a euphemism for an attractive male. NO ONE EVER PERCEIVED L AS AN ATTRACTIVE MALE! NO ONE HAS EVER INTERPRETED L AS WANTING LIGHT, WHO HE PERCEIVES AS AN ATTRACTIVE MALE! Not saying that the song fits very well (I find it hard to imagine anyone saying that L "sets the summer sun on fire), but don't pretend like the double entandre doesn't continue to have a double meaning with the images.

Nah, in all seriousness, I haven't been active in Death Note fandom in a long time. But when I was, there was a person that had made an MMV (Manga Music Video, as the anime hadn't been created yet) to that song for L, and I remember really liking it because it was very cleverly done/edited (and had the Death Note cameos from Full Metal Panic there at the end). It really synced up to the music perfectly, and it made me smile -- double entrendes and all.

They did something similar for Raito with "River Below" by Billy Talent, and Mikami with "Getting Away With Murder" by Papa Roach. The editing was masterfully done with both, though Mikami's wasn't quite as polished as L's and Raito's.

Seriously, though, calm down. It's not that big of a deal, man. Sure, it's overdone, but with the way the fandom exploded when the anime was released (especially once the anime got licensed), you can't really expect anything less. Calm down and eat some fruit or something. It's allllll gonna be okay.

It is, but it's habit for me to call him 'Raito,' since when I first got into Death Note, that's how the fan-translators were writing out his name in the scanlations (I got into Death Note a hellas long time ago, you see -- before the manga had even really finished). I got so used to calling him that that I sometimes still do, although really, I use the two interchangeably. =)

To me the song about sex (subtly or not) and/or not fitting the character, could be used to be hilarious if done right. If it's in every other AMV than it's no longer fun anymore. So I understand your beef.
