I don't like the AIM chats, either. But I do think it's his first time reading. He theorizes occasionally, and sometimes he's on it and sometimes he isn't at all, and I don't think someone could plan that kind of response so well.
Plus he SUPER BUGS OUT about spoilers.

How very dare you, sir! Of course Kaspar's real. Can't you tell they have very different styles of expressing themselves? Okay, yes, many similarities (mainly keysmashes and their wonderful humour) but definitely different.

And to be honest, I think it's pretty obvious it's his first time reading it. Nothing indicates otherwise. You're a conspiracy theorist.

Dolores Umbridge: evil being or unfairly judged?

- I don’t feel she’s evil anymore. Shoot me. I know we’re supposed to think she’s this forboding character who will fuck everything up, but come on. She cannot be that bad just because she’s “traditional” in some sense. I mean, she will probably be difficult, but it’ll be an interesting way to bring up some sort of conflict between Harry and her. Or maybe Hermione. But yeah. I’m not buying this whole “YOU SHOULD TOTALLY HATE HER IMMEDIATELY” thing.

I'm an obsessive HP fan I know I would be the same way if I chatted while reading but I don't like that he basically uses it as an excuse not to write a real review because he wants to go on reading. Which sounds selfish but you know he said he'd review them one by one.

I love all of Mark's reviews and I can understand why the AIM chats would be a little annoying, but I find it really hard to believe that Mark would just pretend to talk to some Scandinavian guy on the internet for lulz. (Also, when Kasper key smashes, you see different characters, that I really don't think anyone would bother putting in to make their prank more legit).

I don't really see how he's overselling it, either. I know when I was reading HP for the first time, I flailed and screamed and acted just as over the top (if not more so) as him. If anything, I would be suspicious that he's able to keep his cool so often to write a review after every single chapter. But... Mark is just awesome, so I'm not gonna question him.

Aaaand anyone that just read his most recent review would probably be able to tell that he's not faking it. How do you fake that kind of heartbreak? Oh, poor Mark. He's just not prepared.

Aw, there are more AIM chats in his HP reviews? I'm just finishing up his Twilight ones, and while my favorites posts are the ones where he made up AIM chats between the characters - and had Edward be an avid 'lol' user XD - I thought the real one he posted of him having a mental breakdown was... entertaining at first, but then it got kind of repetitive. So if there's much more of that in his HP posts, then :\, because I was really looking forward to reading those. I'll still read them, but I hope there aren't too many.

There really aren't that many at all. I marathoned all of his posts at once a few weeks ago when I first got into it, and they're seriously not that big a deal. As someone mentioned before, his POV posts are less entertaining than the chat logs, but the majority of the posts is definitely quality thoughts on the chapters as he goes.

Oh, okay, thanks for the info on that! While his Twilight posts have been incredibly entertaining - and "WTF"-inducing, because I still haven't read the entire series - I'm eager to see what he has to say about HP, especially the characters and if he compares Rowling's writing to Meyer's.

A guy named Mark decides to read the Twilight series (http://markreadstwilight.buzznet.com/user/journal/) and blog about it as he goes through each chapter. Long story short, he didn't like it. As an encore, he moved to read the Harry Potter series (http://markreadsharrypotter.buzznet.com/user/journal/), which he loved. He's currently almost done with HBP, and has even made up an archive (http://markreadsharrypotter.buzznet.com/user/journal/7439161/mark-reads-harry-potter-archive/) of his entries for easier accessibility.

And yeah, there's nothing I've read from his blog that makes me think he's faking his way through the HP books.
