Using as the background a very large fandom, one everyone knows. Mmmm, why didn't you use Avatar anon? That would have been a bit more recent and has more recent wank. Granted, even then you'd be a little late to the absolute wank party. Still some, but not as much these days.

This would have been a good trolly secret a few years ago to cause the desired level of wank you may have wanted.

I mean, why would someone pay your way to get a major say in fandom? It's... FANDOM. Granted I'm sure being a BNF is awesome and all but...

If you pay to get a power trip by paying your way in fandom, I find that pretty strange.

Personally I find it more likely you'd get your power trips from causing some potential wank with a dubious secret (and it's free!). But maybe that's just me.

Eh, I kind of wonder on a secret I took seriously before myself, and now that I think about it, possibility of being a troll? Kinda high. It'll come down eventually probably. Some people react immediately to it. I was just wondering why the hell anyone would post this as I was reading it and then I thought: oh yeah, wank lulz.

Someone else has suggested BNF envy, this is also a possibility in addition to just wanting to stirr things up.

I'm kind of still waiting to post the Quirrel 'TROOOOOOOLLLL' gif though. I don't know how to do it (because I fail at livejournal). But somehow it just feels like this thread would be incomplete without it.

Unfortunatly, my internet is acting up, and I'm not sure how to get gifs uploaded as oppossed to pictures and not sure how to make or find them (though thankfully I'll know how to put them up on lj when I figure this out later.)

Maybe it's cheaper to pay for the initial investment of the fic than it is to buy the laptop computers and iPods that start coming one's way for being a particularly marketing-savvy BNF? :-D

Yeah, I would have bought it for a different fandom - Supernatural, easily - but not HP, not now. I admit I'm not following it closely anymore, and never was that well-connected to start with, but are there new fics coming out that are HUGE? Seems like the reception is pretty muted now, even when something shows up on multiple rec lists on my flist.
