I hope you understand that dreams come from YOURSELF and not a higher being and so it was yourself who wanted you to stop drinking and in my opinion that's even more awesome. Good luck, OP! You can do it.

You're misunderstanding the "higher power" part of the twelve step program. It doesn't necessarily have to be God (in this case it was fandom, and that's acceptable too), the point is to stress to the addicted person that they do not have total control over their addiction, because a large number of people who are addicted to alcohol or other drugs (or sex, or whatever) feel like they do have total control, which is not true. It's all ego. And yes, the individual has to want to stop, beyond that though, they don't have complete control over the disease. How many times have you heard the cliché "I can stop any time?"
