Yeah, it's bloody annoying. It sounds stupid and trendy. What's wrong with a good old-fashioned slash, or even at the risk of being respectable, the humble ampersand?

Yeah, I really don't care for these kind of pairing names anywhere, and yeah, VII's are particularly bad.

If you name pairings rather than the obvious Character A/Character B way, I think you should go with the "ship" names a la that old Fiction Alley Park list. Go, go, HMS Wolfstar!

I had to read "clotiris" three times to see that it wasn't "clitoris"

I don't really care for them either, but they're often quite funny so it's not all bad. Clotiris and Clack are my personal favourites of these.

The only one I've ever actually seen used is 'Cloti'. I don't really have any beef with portmanteau pairing names unless they sound really ridiculous, like 'Clotiris' LOL.

You hate portmanteau pairing names? What a radical, unpopular opinion! Surely it is something you must keep secret.

Valenwind especially has always bothered me, even though it's the prettiest-sounding. Seriously? For a pairing like that? Y'all know Cid would be like "fuck this, it sounds too girly" and just stick with something nice and punchy and simple like Vincid instead. Bam.

Honestly, I even like portmanteau ship names (seriously.) when they're done right, but this is just... bullshit. Geez, I really hate FFVII ship names.

When I write original stories I make up portmanteau pairing names inside my head, and always get disappointed when my ship doesn't have a good name.

Also, why the Barret hate?(from the fandom, not you) He's hardly ever paired with someone. I started playing ffvii again and immediately wanted some hot Barret/Cloud (Baoud?). I did find some stuff, but mostly ooc or poorly written. :C
