Explain, please? Who is this David Mitchell and in what way did Hank rip him off? I've always thought of Hank as a really great dude, and I have trouble believing he'd wilfully rip someone off.

David Mitchell is a British comedian. He does a 'Soapbox' series on Youtube in which he rants about stuff. He did a video a while ago about Americans saying 'I could care less' and I think that's what the OP's referring to. This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om7O0MFkmpw) is said video.

Does he even know who David Mitchell is? I mean, why would he? Besides it isn't as if his complaints aren't complaints that many others share and would describe in similar ways. Yeesh.

Oh, puh-lease. David Mitchell does not hold exclusive rights to expressing annoyance at the phrase "I could care less", and is certainly not the first person to think of the fact that it doesn't make sense. Also, before making that video, Hank tweeted and asked his followers about what annoyed them that people tended to get wrong a lot of the time. It wouldn't surprise me if that particular phrase is a common pet-peeve, and thus was tweeted at Hank from several people.

It was just far too similar. Also, he deleted the first few comments pointing out the similarities. Suspicious much, Hank?

This. I realized that "I couldn't care less" didn't make sense long before I watched these videos (aka just ten seconds ago), does that mean I was ripping either of them off whenever I mentioned it?

Though I do not agree that he stole the 'could / couldn't care less' bit because, hello...obvious statement is obvious. I've said this to people in mild irritation as well...before I had ever heard of either Hank or David.

And it is completely plausible that this goes for the Hold the fort comment as well.

Although David Mitchell's video was more amusing...imo

It's more his guitar that irks me.

To be fair, he did that on purpose and gave credit. (If someone could link to the vid where he talks about his guitar, I'd appreciate it! I have no youtube access right now.)

I've been to a gathering and watched Hank play on that guitar. John seemed to cringe every time he took it out. Understandable, as John was the one who introduced him to Woody Guthrie, and it doesn't seem as though Hank really got the point.

You know, David Mitchell's video seems more like a rip-off John Cleese's than Hank's is a ripoff of David's.

But either way, I seriously doubt any of them are actualy ripping each other off.
