I think the Pokemon games are an excellent way to learn Japanese. Since they are all in kana, it makes it easy to look up words, and you get really quick at reading too. Plus if you have played Pokemon previously you know some of the words and that way you can learn new words in Japanese. I hope that made sense.

I think that's a good idea. I bought a few Japanese children's books when I was first learning to help me read better and now I have a few raw manga series along with a few that are translated as well.

Video games are a bit harder for me because sometimes it scrolls really fast hehe, but I think this will help out a lot. =) How is Black and White so far?

That's a good way to learn a language, imo. Sure, some people might find it weird that it's pokemon of all things, but it's better than learning soley from a textbook.
I imported Black version, but I don't understand a single word. xD Just going along with my knowledge of the previous games, and good ol' online pokedexes.

Pokemon is how I learned kana too. Though for me I did it through the CCG, I could carry the cards in my pocket and pull them out to study when I had free time at school.
When I took a German course, my teacher said that reading children's books is a good way to practice a language, so it's sort of the same principle since, well, it IS a children's game at its core.
