Of course I'm talking about ontd_feminists and fandom crusaders. That's what this sequel is about.

I AM a feminist and I'm fucking sick of them dirtying up the word with their bullshit.

How about raffling off some fanfiction in an auction for the U.N., so that it can hire more soldiers in the Congo to better protect the women there who are being gang-raped as a tactic for opposing factions to prove their political might?

Naw I think it's better to circle-jerk with brainclones on Dreamwidth and scream at other liberals over the internet over some CW television series involving vampires.

(The reason *I* don't start such a project, if you're wondering, is because I'm not a Special Snowflake with Self-Diagnosed Social Issues so I can actually do stuff IRL.)

Uh... secret*.

My rage has affected my phonics

You're too busy to start a comm dedicated to a worthwhile issue, but not to call names on the internet? You don't sound all that different from the people you're complaining about.

lol yes it's odd, even us do-gooders need our daily doses of brainless catharsis.

Now how about responding to the content of my post? Or -- you know what, it's okay. I realize there's nothing more to be said.

When I think of do-gooders, I usually don't think of smug, self-righteous assholes.

Your actual post was nothing more than a collection of vague generalizations about what 'they' (they apparently = posters at ontd_f and everyone at dreamwidth) do, along with a bunch of fail_fandomanon talking points (white cock! everyone is middle class and American!). There wasn't really very much to say about it.

I think that culture shape the way we think about men and women. I think it is important to talk about all the fucking sexism going on in the stories we are told in novels and on the telly. I think it is important to remind people about the sexism inherent in so very many of the things we fangirl over. I think that raising awareness will raise criticism will make it so that in five, ten, fifteen years from now on, girls can have better heroines to identify with than they do today. (and if you think that women's problems have nothing to do with socialisation, good luck fighting for change)

I'm in fandom. I talk about gender issues in fandom. My public anger and my money go to Amnesty and WWF. Am I supposed to hand in my feminist card because of that?

this.

fighting for the cause irl with donations/volunteering/etc is fucking GREAT and it helps women immeasurably, of course! but i think "whining" on the internet does have its purpose, as its raised awareness for a countless amount of people. also, fandom does not exist in a bubble and it does often reflect irl attitudes/influences people, etc.

sure, there is such a thing as going overboard, but still, it's an important thing that needs to be talked about. i don't see why so many people seem to think that you can't fight against big issues irl AND talk about skeevy shit you saw on tv or whatever.

Thank you.
