I see where you're getting at, OP, I guess it's an issue which all of us (read: people who are not hell-bent on fandom infights). For me, I was out of the fandom for a while due to RL things (not my choice), and when I came back the fandom wasn't as happy and rainbow-filled as it used to be. It became easier to concentrate on what my favourite skater is doing, and just watching actual skating (junior GPs are already going on, and senior GPs will start next week, isn't it exciting? :D unless we're dealing with people who doesn't actually care about skating and only goes for how a skater looks/does stuff outside skating/etc). I think there are people who are still interested in skating itself.

Also, sometimes you need to tell them that the fight they're having in not their fight, and be ready to embrace all of them, which is what I have done, regardless of how you feel or not feel about the issue. I have alienated some of them, sure, but I have managed to escape with few injuries. But then my prerogatives in terms of skating fandom aren't about Evan or Johnny :P
