If your neighbors are annoying, dislike them because they're annoying or rude or whatever. Their ethnicity has nothing to do with their neighborly etiquette, jackass (unless they're racist too, which I assume isn't the case here).

Yeah, this. Nothing irritates me more than the whole "oh god those annoying (insert minority here) people are so (insert stereotype)". As if white people were never annoying, or loud, or rude, or ignorant, or bad neighbors, or mean. Christ.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-19 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever, all minorities are the same. White people, on the other hand, are individuals!

[identity profile] spam-27.livejournal.com 2010-10-19 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
This is of course, racist in itself, assuming the OP is white.

Any race can be racist yanno.

[identity profile] wistrift.livejournal.com 2010-10-19 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Racism in this context is privilege + prejudice, so no

[identity profile] crystal-marbles.livejournal.com 2010-10-19 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You can be white AND the opressed minority in a country, so yes.

[identity profile] wistrift.livejournal.com 2010-10-19 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Outsourced is viewed through the lens of a white person, so no, that's not what I'm talking about.

[identity profile] crystal-marbles.livejournal.com 2010-10-19 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
If you were talking strictly about the show, I apologize. I misunderstood. However you made it seem like you disagreed with the argument "All races can be rasist" by using a argument about privilige.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-18 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Coming from an area with a dense population of what would elsewhere be a 'minority' group, ethnicity/culture DEFINITELY has to do with neighborly etiquette. It's not in 100% of cases, but there are statistically significant trends of individuals in this group being being self-important, rude, and dismissive, where I come from. And while I don't consider myself a racist person, I DO have a box labeled "godawful ___ assholes". Because sometimes the awful stereotype is all too true.

A racist puts everyone of this race into this box. A jaded bastard like myself puts offending individuals in this box.

Oh, and don't tell me you don't have a "godawful ___ assholes" box for any type of person. Americans. Canadians. Christians. You do. I can READ YOUR MIND. So yeah. Ethnicity/culture is a factor.

[identity profile] brianna-aisling.livejournal.com 2010-10-19 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
That's really not true, because neighborly etiquette is not the same in every country or to every culture. I live in an apartment complex that has a high Indian population. The adults are all immigrants, most of whom are not "Americanized". The way they behave is very different from the complexes I've lived in previously that are mainly white/Hispanic. (I live a few hours from the border so there's just as many people with Mexican heritage as there are white people.) It is related to the culture they brought over with them from India, and it differs vastly from American culture. I could go into more detail, but then it'd be a long-ass comment.

Though, unlike the OP, I happen to think that Indians are fantastic neighbors, because they are actually respectful of their neighbors, unlike the American neighbors I've had in the past. The only complaint I've had is that their kids run crazy, but that's more because I don't like kids than it has to do with them being Indian. :P
