Yeah, this. Once I found out this Sherlock was SUPPOSED to be asexual, it kind of started pissing me off that people are slashing him, to be honest.

Which is hypocritical of me, granted. But it reminds me of when I was a kid in Sailor Moon fandom and I'd come across fics where the author gave Haruka and Michiru boyfriends.

I think that Sherlock comes off as pretty asexual, but I can totally buy the idea of him and John having a romantic relationship, just without sex.

Well "asexual" and "gay" aren't diametrically opposed.

I think that a lot of people reading/writing porn with him in it know that it's OOC. Maybe that adds to the cracky appeal?

But for me, smut is an intensified and concentrated way of examining the balance of power within a relationship, and that's really fascinating when it comes to Sherlock/John.
