Oh, yeah, that's why I only said a lot of them do (instead of all). If they have some sort of connection with merchandise or cons and enough of a backing they can definitely stick around forever. Dragon Ball Z, for instance, will probably be around for a long time... Especially since in the US it's being rereleased as Dragon Ball Z Kai. And there's always the nostalgia factor to keep fandoms alive. :]

But with Harry Potter I have to say I can see it always staying active in at least some way because of the merchandise and the cons and the theme park etc. Plus I'm sure JKR will be writing in that world again someday.
