Teen Titans was ridiculously dark for a kid's show, and though they obviously didn't show rape, it's really not hard to imagine it happened, especially with Slade doing it to Terra and Robin. Comics canon also had Terra and Slade having sex, IIRC.

Anon, you rock <3 And yeah, That season bugged the hell out of me because I had grown so used to the creepy sexual tension between Slade and Robin it just seemed so off that it suddenly shifted over to Raven.

Also...blah hated Slade with super-powers it was just silly.

Give me the first two seasons with my Slobin and Slerra scenes any day of the week.

Yeah, I get why they did it, but still thought that episode was "meh" compared to the ones with Slade+Robin and Slade+Terra. The entire arc was underwhelming, really. Haunted is an amazing episode though, and the two parts of Aftershock are my favorite episodes.

Meh, I liked Slade because he was a versatile villain who knew how to go after the Titans individually. He didn't stick to one plan, he had several. That said, I wish the whole "apprentice" thing had just been about Robin. I wanted Terra to just go away. I couldn't stand her.

Haunted will NEVER not be my favorite episode, specifically because it IS so fucked up. I'll always remember it like that over any other bullshit about Slade and any other character. It's always been about Robin, anon, not to worry;

I kind of agree where the OP is coming from, but for slightly different reasons. TT created an incredible villain with Slade. Him going after Terra? Sure, understandable. But I feel like, after the disaster that was Brother Blood, the writers started relying on Slade too much. Season 4, he plays a big part, but hell, why not just develop TRIGON? And, based on the interview about season 5 (which was originally supposed to have 20 episodes and not 13) Slade was ALSO supposed to show up and compete with the Brotherhood of Evil!

I'm not a comics fan so I could be completely wrong, but in the original Teen Titans comics didn't Slade and Raven have some issues? I can't remember, honestly, but I seem to recall reading that on Wikipedia somewhere . . .

Nonetheless, I do agree with you, OP. Back when I watched Teen Titans, "Haunted" and the Apprentice episodes were my favorites, too. =D <3

They have issues, but none that involved that kind of interaction.

In the comics, it's heavily implied that Slade at least partially blames the death of his son Jericho on Raven because his involvement with her led him to be possessed by the corrupted souls of Azarath and go psycho on his teammates. Long story short, at the end of the arc, Slade had to shove his sword through his son's back to save the world. In canon, he's called her 'witch' and tried to kill her so there's definitely some issues there.

Also, as a more general response to the OP- as someone who got into the comics because of the toon, I have to say, I very much enjoyed Slade's appearances in Season 4. Demon powers and everything aside (I was actually surprised the content of this episode made it past the censors), I like that different sides of him were displayed besides the creepy villain mastermind-- the capacity to ally himself (however tentatively) with do-gooders, for instance, and his struggle to win back his own life.

As for that episode in particular: I honestly think he was high on demon powers and the fact that he wasn't dead. It was a chance to cut loose, something a controlling character like him doesn't usually do. It was probably a liberating experience, while it lasted.

All of that to say: Slade is a highly complex character, whether he's from the toon or the comic, so I hardly think restricting as a personal villain for one character does him justice. Though I do agree, Haunted is definitely one of the best episodes in the series.

ALSO: The interactions Slade and Robin had in the three-part end to the season were really fantastic. I felt like they reached a more equal standing than they had in the past, particularly in that fight scene and the subsequent dialogue.
