The OP can't be you, since s/he is clearly ME...
(-:
Honestly, she should have married Sherlock Holmes Freddie...

[identity profile] spider-rogue.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I always thought that she should've gone off and done awesome things by herself, but that's just me. ;)

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That works, too! Though nothing says she can't do both. (-:

[identity profile] spider-rogue.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no, of course not! I would just prefer her specifically to be single and adventuresome, but really anything is better than Henry Higgins (ugh).
solarbird: (gaz)

Queue up, sister. It's total bullshit. They should've never ended up back together. Not for a MOMENT. Destroys the film.

[identity profile] princessgos.livejournal.com 2010-10-31 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
The original play by George Bernard Shaw had her pairing up with Freddie, so you're in good company.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-30 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved Freddy, he had the best song too!

[identity profile] wistrift.livejournal.com 2010-10-31 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I could have danced all night ~ haha I'm going to go listen now
I was so mad when Glee covered it, that show gives me a serious pain in the ass.

[identity profile] amredthelector.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
The really annoying thing about that movie is, in the play it's based off of (Pygmalion, not the stage version of MFL) she DOES go off and marry Freddie. And it's implied she goes and has a life, and that Henry Higgins is left sad and alone.

[identity profile] fictionalbf.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I approve.

*seeks out Pygmalion script*

[identity profile] amredthelector.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Higgins is kind of an ass in the end of the play, telling her that she won't amount to anything, but she tells him to shove it and that she'll steal all his voice coaching business. Bernard Shaw was an early feminist, and really did try to show Eliza as a strong and competent woman. My Fair Lady is a pretty close adaptation, but that ending just destroys the whole point of the original play - that being that she dumps Higgins and leaves him alone because he's an asshole and that's what he deserves.

[identity profile] adaveen.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Ayup! :D Love Shaw. Almost as much as Oscar.

[identity profile] amredthelector.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
As in Oscar Wilde? Because I have much love for him, too.

[identity profile] adaveen.livejournal.com 2010-10-31 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
As in Oscar Wilde, yes. I have dreams about having to choose between them for a husband. Oscar was prettier, but... so what? ;)

[identity profile] amredthelector.livejournal.com 2010-10-31 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, that's awesome. I once was given the prompt 'what 3 people, living or dead, would you invite to dinner and why' for an extemporaneous speech, and my answer was Oscar Wilde, Lady Gaga, and Neil Gaiman. It would be an interesting, flamboyant dinner.

(Anonymous) 2010-10-31 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
... T-That would be the most interesting hypothetical dinner party to ever occur in recent history.
Except for Lady Gaga.

Can I be hypothetically invited? :D

[identity profile] amredthelector.livejournal.com 2010-10-31 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Upon later thought, I decided it would be even better if Freddie Mercury replaced Gaga. Because, seriously. Oscar Wilde and Freddie Mercury eating dinner together. The world would explode from the sheer awesome.

Hmm, I'll have to check the hypothetical guest list...

[identity profile] blaanidblaanid.livejournal.com 2010-10-31 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
That would be the best dinner party ever.

[identity profile] brandiweed.livejournal.com 2010-10-31 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
The really annoying thing about that movie is, in the play it's based off of (Pygmalion, not the stage version of MFL) she DOES go off and marry Freddie.

And as early as 1914 people were shipping Eliza and Higgins against the author's wishes:

[identity profile] amredthelector.livejournal.com 2010-10-31 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
"My ending makes money, you ought to be grateful," protested Tree. "Your ending is damnable; you ought to be shot."

Oh, burn.

[identity profile] wistrift.livejournal.com 2010-10-31 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
you ought to be shot

good lord

[identity profile] adaveen.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
According to George Bernard Shaw, she did marry Freddie. :)
