I just wanted to say that I found this secret very romantic, and I for one would be so flattered if somebody said those things to me... (The fandom aspect of it would only be a bonus!)

I hope things work out between you and your 'just friend', anon! :)

Thank you so much for the comment. It's all completely true. If you like the three fictional people mentioned, then I wholly recommend reading James Holman's biography "A Sense of the World." He had Hornblower's deep sense of duty, Maturin's wanderlust, and Hodgins' witty charm.

There's no telling where things will go with my 'just friend', but I see it working out one way or another. Many thanks again for the good vibes and encouragement.

1) Your secret is really (bitter)sweet, OP ♥

2) ... that pic makes me want to go watch the Hornblower TV series at once, even if I'd told myself I would watch it only after reading the books. I'M CONFLICTED, NOW D8

Thanks for the comment. I have not myself seen any of the Hornblower TV series, but the books were pretty fun. This 'just friend' bears enough similarities to Hornblower that I privately call them "Commodore Pennywhistler." Gotta admit, it'd be a great name for a character in a steampunk story. Hmm, might even make that the code name for this 'just friend' in future secrets

I consider myself a Stephen looking for a Jack. You're not alone, OP. This was really sweet. I hope everything works out for you.

(Also, Aubrey/Maturin + Hornblower secret today? It feels like Christmas came early.)

Thank you kindly for the comment. So glad that I could give you an early Christmas present too! I have to say, the books got a lot easier to read once I spent some time on a square-rigged sailing ship like those in the books because everything became that much easier to visualize. I think that I could probably blather on about those books and then some for hours. Currently, I've moved from the realm of historical fiction into documents all pertaining to the mutiny on the Bounty. Good fun and rather surprising.

As a last note, if you like those guys, then I wholly recommend James Holman's biography "A Sense of the World." He has Hornblower's deep sense of duty and Maturin's wanderlust combined together in a person whose is absolutely remarkable (and something of a total badass).

There's Jack Aubrey out there for you, and I'm certain he/she would be happy for Stephen's sensibility when the fair winds turn foul.

I bet the books got easier to read after actually getting to be on a tall ship! I get along okay with the 'Sea of Words' though. (Trust me on this, you're not the only person who could blather on about these books for hours on end. It's probably a requirement if you've read all the books and really enjoyed them.)

I'll definitely check out that biography - it sounds great, and I've been looking for book recs recently.
