I think the changes that have been made in the organization of posts subtly influence what gets submitted. For example, people might be less likely to post tons of secrets all at once about a single fandom, because they know that they're more likely to be relegated to the bottom of the post, which is bad because then people not in the fandom will skim instead of reading etc etc. I specifically remember that when the grouping fandoms at the bottom of the post was announced, there was an anon who worried that the dozen or so secrets she posted about one particular fandom every week wouldn't get as much attention. If she and others who did the same thing took the hint and scaled their submissions down, that would account for some of it.

Another example: hitshipspiration secrets. It's really easy to make one of those, and I think a lot of people were doing it just to see others squee in the comments about their favorite characters and OTPs. But they don't want to bother with coming up with extra content that will get the secret posted rather than linked, so they just don't submit at all.

I don't get the clusters either. But isn't that a fairly old thing? Like at least from earlier this year anyway.

It is, but I think it kind of took time for people to "get".
