There ain't no eyes in his sockets (those are glass eyes; he's technically blind), no real nose, or tongue, or ears, and his arms are prosthetics that he can slip off, because he hide blades in 'em. Hyakkimaru gets around thanks to telepathy and some psychic powers, which he developed after many years of being a limbless body and a featureless head full of holes. A blind monk cures Hyakkimaru of his despair over his weak existence by showing him a group of children, many missing limbs, pretty much all badly-burnt, orphans after their homes were burnt down and their parents lost their lives in a war that turned their home into a battlefield.
Hyakki later makes friends with a child thief named Dororo, who isn't even warded off when Hyakkimaru plops out his glass eyes out onto the ground (although they did scare him at first, "GAH, YOUR EYES!!!" and all. xD;). But they stayed very close!
