I don't dislike the trolls, and I don't agree with your individual assessments of the trolls (Equuis, interesting? lolno) but GODDAMN do I hate all the so-called fans who only became interested once the trolls came around, refer to everything using trollmance terms, hate on the kids for not being as "interesting" as the trolls, and wish they were trolls so they could have trollmances.

The last one is the one that annoys me the most. The whole point of trollmance is that it's needlessly complicated without really being all that different from anything that humans do (it fits into the whole thing where the trolls think humans are weird and primitive). People who sigh and moan about how they'll never have any relationships as meaningful as the trolls' are... idiotic.

I didn't mind them until after the troll-centric arc. Once we started focusing on the kids again, oftentimes when a troll would show up I'd be like "omg shut the fuck up I want to see what the kids are doing"

I still like them as characters, but I liked it a lot better when they were either more mysterious and out of the way or when they were the sole focus. Now it just seems like the different groups are fighting for our attention.

I love the trolls' interactions, both with each other and with the humans. It's through those that they are most strongly characterised - make them independent of those around them, and they're fairly weak.

Ignoring the other characters in favour of just the trolls is, in my opinion, detrimental to the quality of their parts of the story.

I don't hate the trolls -that- much but I'll agree with you that I'm sick of how they, usually Vriska, keep stealing the spotlight from other, more fun characters with their stupid romance crap. I like the way some of the trolls talk to some of the kids (Like Equius rapping about Musclebeasts to Dave) but Vriska/John pesterlogs just aren't that funny or clever, and they are by far the most common ones. And half the other trolls have only talked to the kids on like one page, so fuck that.

Ehhh, don't really agree with your summary of their personalities (like anon above said, Equius is the most interesting?), but I think I've come to dislike some of their fans. The more vocal crazy ones.

Also, trollsonas. Never thought I would find something I am immediately dismissive towards.

Sadly there are a lot of people that only enjoy the comic for the trolls and nothing else, IMO all the characters are important in different ways and ignoring an specific group takes something out of the story.

This. So much this. When the troll arc started, I really loved it. The character interactions in Homestuck are one of my favourite things about the comic, and the trolls had a lot of that. But as soon as we saw the kids again, I was reminded of why I fell in love with the comic in the first place. Now we just have a lot more characters to provide character insight and growth, and I am more than happy with that.

Personally, I agree with the sentiment that hating on/ignoring some characters in this story can just cut out a big part of its impact and enjoyability.
