Can't speak for everyone here, but my dorms have bathrooms for the entire hall, which are basically like high school bathrooms. You know, four cubicles and a row of sinks.

Yeah. Wanking in there would actually be worse.

(But yeah, paying more for the single? Uncool.)

Hmm, but how about the actual loo stall...I mean, that's got to lock, right? surely it's not like an open loo? And I'm guessing showers do have some privacy...

It's not ideal, and I actually never lived in a dorm (as I was an out student) but I can see that working in emergencies.

Also depends if OP is male or female. If female, it's easier to cover up masturbation, as there are no embarrassing bulges.

OP said in the secret that there were other more legit reasons. Don't get why everyone's jumping on them for the slash bit.

Not related to what you said, but I also think it'd be fine from the roommate's perspective if they knew. Personally, I wouldn't want my roommate to be getting off a few feet away from where I sleep at night. But maybe that's just me, I don't understand human sexuality, blahblahblah.

Well, it's the slash reason that was highlighted...we don't know what the other reasons are, so we can't comment on that.

And imho, it kinda sucks if that indeed lead to OP's housing costing more.

And I sort of assume people get off pretty much everywhere. Because they do.
