Because people have different views?

I personally really can't stand the later Potter films, and the only ray of light that got me through the trash that was Half-Blood Prince was her. She's got a presence like none of the other actors, and she really brings Luna to life.

I personally don't think many of the HP actors are all that impressive, but she was. Simple as.

I think she's one the most spot on of all the actors when it comes to really bringing the character to life. I never doubted that she was Luna for a moment.

Not everyone feels the same way you do. It's almost like people are different from one another, or something. Baffling, really.

(Personally, I think she's amazing and pretty much is Luna, and I'm pretty sure JKR agrees, so that's good enough for me.)

Well, one major reason would be that she isn't an actor -- or rather, wasn't before getting involved with Potter. The only reason she became Luna was because of a whim on Rowling's part. So, no experience prior to the Potter movies.
Don't kick the dog if it's already down, man.

Plus, some people were genuinely AND positively surprised at the fact that she could act in the first place despite being a complete amateur. And I gotta admit; she did grow on me after awhile, despite my initial reaction.

Because she's Luna. And how she even got the role is pretty spectacular. Her and Jessica Cave. Lavender Brown isn't even the same sort of fandom darling that Luna Lovegood is, but Jessica totally made her come to life and she made her adorable.

Yeah, I'm there with you OP. It's not even that she's a horrible horrible actor like most of the kids in those films (main trio espeically), she's just - you said it - wooden. She's a fan trying to be her favourite character.

Because for most people she is Luna or at least the Luna they had in their minds. Personally, I thought she was uncanny. She even sounded how I thought Luna would sound like in real life.

Agreed. She's cute and spacey and the perfect look for Luna, but I find her one-note and nearly life-less. Not certain it's the actress's fault as it might be the direction she's given.

I like Ginny in the movies, but if you don't you at least much admit that Luna is even more stoic.

I've never really understand the Hermione hate though. I mean, it's one thing to be upset that her character is altered from the book (she is) but I don't think Emma's acting is bad.
