That's a habit I got from MST3K and movie nights with friends, but you have to watch it sometimes, OP. Constant cynicism can make a movie less enjoyable, and I watched Inception with a dude who thought he was being funny, but really just didn't understand the movie because he wouldn't SHUT UP FOR FIVE MINUTES.

However, as you are embarking in a new stage in your life (one that is, how you say, college-y), let me recommend fun snark movies: Plan Nine from Outer Space, most Schwarzenegger films, most romantic comedies where a career woman is brought down for the sake of ~love~ (rip them apart, OP. Take them out), The Wizard, and Babes in Toyland (1986). Keanu Reeves is convicted of grand cookie larceny; it is divine.

Also, you might one day try to snark the infamous Japanese horror film Hausu, but I warn ya. HAUSU SNARKS YOU.

Dude,

snarking on movies is way fun, but only when everyone is snarking ): it's a total dick move to rip on something when other people are trying to enjoy it or just watch it quietly!

But as long as you remember that and don't get pretentious/titty about it, you should be fine

**WITTY

oh hell that is an awful typo

[identity profile] philonecron.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
and that made no sense anyway I was just trying to say as long as you don't get pretentiously witty, as in thinking you are god's gift to criticism when you actually are just a normal person snarping on a movie!

god I need to learn to comment better I am shutting up now

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
/envisions whacking people around with boobs to get them to shut up and agree

LOLOL

As long as you keep it funny and light-hearted rather than like "UGHHH LOOK AT HOW BAD THAT ACTING IS! OMG IS THIS CHARACTER RETARDED OR SOMETHING GEEEEEZ!", which I find his 'snark' can fall into. And of course, gauge your audience's reaction and make sure you do it appropriately, for god's sake, or you will be 'that guy' in the BAD way.

Huh. So this is what I was doing when I blacked out the other day - posting secrets. Good; I was afraid I'd killed someone or something like that.

In all seriousness, anon, I'm with you on both counts. :) I have to make an effort not to snark during even good movies if I'm with anyone, to avoid driving everyone crazy.

And the fandom... I agree with you so much. I've checked out their comm, and they all seem like pretty cool people, and I love that everyone at Channel Awesome seems to actually enjoy the fact that they have a fandom. Sometimes I wish I was part of it. But then I'll see a post over there or a secret over here about how someone doesn't like a certain reviewer anymore, and arguments start, and... yeah. I'd rather just enjoy the reviews.

(Anonymous) 2010-12-19 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
So I've basically been in the fandom for him and his fellow reviewers for a year, and I can see where you're coming from. Sometimes there are just days where I don't want to touch a reviewer's videos because of something someone did, or individual gripes I've heard too much of, etc. But to be honest, those are rarer than I thought they'd be, and I've made a lot of good friends there. Sometimes you gotta work through the false leads, though, but overall it's been worth it. [/ramble]

Plus, the snark. A+ on snark.

(Anonymous) 2010-12-20 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Meh. I enjoy his vids, but he's fallen into the "leave-out-key-points-in-movies-so-I-can-make-the-omgitmakenosanssssssss-jokes" way of snarking-which really just annoys me. Snarking is one thing, pretending something didn't happen when it did for a joke is another. (Little Monsters review, I'm looking at you!)

[identity profile] shutterdragon.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
you're probably really fucking annoying then too.
