yeah, my thoughts too - I DON'T MIND if she uses photos! They CAN and DO in fact LOOK NICE, as is proved by the large numbers of people who comment on the bookmark posts saying 'that is a nice picture!'

what is not nice is the pretence, the claim that 'certain faces just speak to me', etc etc. (also the charging of money. GIFT ECONOMY, a beautiful phrase. Regular freaking SALES, I'm sorry, NO. she's a grown woman who should understand what fandom is about: it is not about this.)

(hi OP! can you tell i am enjoying unleashing these *feelings*!)

it's pretty telling that on this post - http://pennies-4-eyes.livejournal.com/19083.html#cutid1 - where she shows her PROCESS, the sketched john&sherlock are at very different angles/postures/expressions to the inked ones, and the final thing is INCREDIBLY stiff, after the sketch has been replaced with traces that don't look like they fit together at all.

do you have any thoughts about the 'library' print? Mine are along the lines of 'lol that does not look like any kind of holmes and watson I have ever imagined, also since when is there a library in Baker Street'.

long comment is long

*anons and waves*

Yes, basically what you said about the post. I know postures usually change after the first rough sketch but the fact that she went from angle to HELLO THERE PROFILE is just one more clue that she's tracing. It's way easier to change the angle rather than look for the perfect screenshot. Note that this post also highlights one of her annoying habits, ie the usual fishing for praise.

Concerning the library print. GOD THE LIBRARY PRINT. I need to vent.
First of all, it looks like ass. Some of her stuff looks great but it's so blatant that she spent no time on it at all that it hurts my eyes.

Second, how can people be fooled by that? I mean, look at the bokshelves: if she only bothered to do a half assed job on the lines for the characters and used the damned line tool for the shelves, do you really think she would go and paint the individual books behind Holmes?

That's not even the main problem. The main problem is as you rightly said that neither of the characters look remotely like Holmes and Watson. My guess is she found a picture of two guys in a library, traced it, used a blur filter on the background, played with colors a bit and slapped a moustache on "Watson". Note that in this explanation, there's a reason why the moustache looks like it's eating Watson's head. And also why there's the back of a chair in the foreground.

And yet there she is, answering every comment with "I spent 12 hours on it! Buy it in my shop!".

I shouldn't even look at her gallery anymore because every single time I find something new she traced and never mentioned. Like that "Faramir" picture on her Deviant Art page that's just Sam Winchester with a Link outfit.

oh god, the fishing for praise - maybe it would be fine if you had the slightest belief that she was in fact anxious about her work, but you don't get that impression at all.

the library print: I had not even noticed the chair back in the foreground. HA. It has that forgotten look about it, doesn't look deliberate at all. and it's blurry in an 'out of focus' way, like it would be in a camera shot

'holmes' and 'watson' are also not really dressed as men of the 1880s would have been - they look almost Edwardian to me, particularly the ties - and the haircut on 'watson' is not right, the shape of the trousers isn't right either - too baggy? too modern looking? just not really RIGHT. which makes me feel even more that there's some photo or screencap she's tracing, not images of 19th century clothing

part of why the library print doesn't work as ART is that the background is weirdly photographic and way too detailed compared with the 'holmes' and 'watson'. and where is watson's right hand?
