I don't know why some American posters are getting so uptight about this. Lets face it, many countries have stereotypical names that people automatically jump to when they think of the country. France has names like Louis, Australia has names like Bruce and Sheila, and America has names that sound 'heroic' and...well...American.

It's not a bad thing. Geez.

I don't think Eugene is stereotypical anywhere. I'd say it's more a context thing, anyway. No reason to not like the name Bruce because it sounds "too Australian".

It's not really the name it's self that's rubbing some people the wrong way - it's the fact that the anon seems to be implying that 'Because it sounds American I don't like it!' that's getting people. Granted, America-hate is pretty par for course on F!S, but still.

True, but I think (or at least hope) the OP was saying that the reason they had a problem with such an 'American sounding' name, is because it showed up in what is essentially an old fashioned (if somewhat Disneyfied) fairy tale. It's awkward when a name sounds too modern or American-action-hero-ish for the setting it's in.

Oh, I'm not arguing that at all - it *is* awkward for the setting. I was responding to the bit about 'I don't know why American posters are getting upset', as opposed to the secret it's self.

For the actual secret...I hope that the OP meant it the way you said, as opposed to the way it kind of is coming off.

This! It sounds really, really "modern" to my ears when the setting isn't. I like the name Flynn, but the combo "Flynn Rider" sounds really generic and blah to my ears. I never thought of it as "American-action-hero-ish" before but now that I notice it, yes! xD

Then again, the hero has such a stupid face I wouldn't want a good name wasted on him tbh. The characters themselves look really generic and blah to me. :/(Sorry if I sound like a troll, aha, I'm just not a fan of the animation style or his facial expressions.)

Still, I think the OP could have worded it a bit better. :/
