My only problem with FF.N is the ads. They've honestly gotten past the point of ridiculousness. The Ad Blocker only lasts for one day, and if you don't activate it, you get an ad that takes over the entire page every other click. As if that wasn't obnoxious enough, yesterday I got an ad that told me I had to take a survey in order to access the site, and when I refreshed, it did nothing. I had to close the page and reopen it. I understand that they have to keep the page free, and I wouldn't use the Ad Blocker at all if they only had the ads that were off to the side of the page; it's the ads that take over the entire page that grate on my nerves.

That aside, I like FF.N. Yeah, there's a lot of badfic, but that's true on ANY site. Anyone who says there isn't any badfic on LJ really needs to open their eyes. Yes, Mary-Sue fic = badfic, but not-Mary-Sue fic =/= automatically good fic. Half the people that are elitist about FF.N's badfic probably aren't the greatest writers in the world themselves. Besides, FF.N is dead useful when it comes to multi-chapter stories. It's a lot more convenient to have all of the chapters to a fic in one place rather than having to go to separate posts/deviations every time you want to read the next part. It's just more convenient.

Granted, FF.N is far from perfect, but I've been using it since I was a young teen -- I'm not going to abandon it now. Besides, the best Zelda fic ever written is on that site and nowhere else. That alone makes the site worthwhile for me.

If you use Firefox then an add-on like Adblocker Plus or NoScript may be your salvation. I have both, and can't remember the last time I saw any type of ad on that site.

Also, I'd be very interested to know the name of that best-ever Zelda fic.

The Legend of Zelda: The Return. Not the most creative title ever, but the fic is phenomenal. The author is Rose Zemlya, and the sequel -- The Legend of Zelda: Reconciliation -- is currently in-progress.

I warn you, though, that The Return is novel-length. And Reconciliation is already longer than it. xD

THAT FIC.

THAT FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC.

Best fic (and WIP sequel) I have ever read, in any fandom. I re-read it all the time. It's so brilliant.

UGH, THIS. However, if you look at the URL of the survey, you can see the URL of the story at the end of it. Just copypaste that part and you get to the story.

I stopped looking for fic on FFN because of the page hijacking-ads. I'd prefer pop-ups to those things, to be honest, because it is absolutely impossible to read chaptered fic with them up, and even more impossible to browse when every goddamn time you click the "next" button, an ad steals the page.

My solution to the ad problem is that my ff.net bookmark takes me directly to the ad block page instead of the main one. That way I know to click on the "block ad" link before doing any browsing. It saves me so many headaches.
