Fair enough. You make good points. And you did correctly know what I'd ask: How would he know.

The problem here is, that in some cases it can be a thin line and it's impossible to know the sentiments or even the knowledge people had at the time of sex.
Unfortunately, people are not mind-readers and we'll never know if it appeared consensual, or if any idiot in their right mind should spot it was not.

But I do in any case find this trickier to judge than a flat-out attack kind of rape...

The circumstances do make it more difficult to judge, I agree. One of the reasons I feel so strongly about this is because I was suspicious at first too, due partly to misleading news reports and partly to the fact that I really wanted to believe the best of him, because he was doing work that I thought--and still think--is very important. But I did have to reevaluate my views after I learned more about the case, and I now regret being guided by my emotions at first.

I do hope that you'll think more about this, and honestly my real hope is that you'll end up agreeing with me, but thank you for the courteous response in any case. I hope I wasn't too rude, but these kinds of debates end up pretty heated even without bringing in all the extra baggage that this case has.

No, not at all. And I fear this argument might ave gotten a bit out of hand with other parties. I generally prefer courteous discussion.

I do think that - even if he is found guilty - that does not invalidate the good he did with Wikileaks, though. I see that as two separate things.

I see how these discussion get heated, and it is just F!S for Pete's sake, but I am generally annoyed when people already condemn people before a trial, or when they themselves haven't bothered pondering on the circumstances themselves.

See, now I come across as thinking all rape victims are liars, which is completely not the case, but these discussions often turn black versus white, while I feel better in shades of grey.
