Yeah I'm not finding it easy unless I know someone who has gone into that fandom too and I can just follow them over lol. Going into another fandom and delurking all by yourself - it's daunting, IA. I feel that some fandoms are far 'cliquier' and less friendly than others. It's why I lurk FFVII fandom but join in Dissidia fandom because even though they're both Final Fantasy I'm finding the difference between the overall friendliness to newbies a little staggering. Likewise Harry Potter and Merlin.

But that is just my experience, because I heard Merlin is too cliquey too but I found it one of the friendlier ones.

I have no interest whatsoever in being a BNF but at the same time I like having at least some friends so I guess my advice to you is to just try - what's the worst that could happen? Someone doesn't friend you back, who cares? Don't get many comments on your fic, who's going to notice?
