But you're loving a book (that you hated) for it's cliffnotes. That doesn't strike you as slightly off, like maybe you like something that's tangentially related to the thing you claim to like?

If you like Dissidia, you like Dissidia. You're not a fan of the FF games whose characters are referenced in Dissidia. These are not the same, and in fact, the characters are not the same. Characters are defined by what they do, and the Dissidia characters do not re-enact the full storyline of their original games.

Can't you see how all the Dissidia fans, constantly gushing how much they love, say, Cecil might piss off people who actually like Cecil (especially because of how few people actually have played IV), the character from FFIV, rather than his abridged, edited, cliff-notes version? Oh, wait, no, that would interfere with Dissidia fans just being there for the fanservice and pretending they like a character they've never actually seen before.
