I've never gotten people being embarrassed or afraid to go to movies alone. I mean you're just sitting a dark room not talking to people for 2 hours--it's very much the same experience whether you go with somebody or not. A lot of the time I prefer to go alone because everybody I know chews really loudly and I want to kill them when they eat popcorn.

ANYWAY Tron is such a theater movie! You see to see it while it's still playing--go alone if you have to!

The Millionnaire Matchmaker always says that the first date sets the tone for the entire relationship. (She then follows that up with some icky gender stuff, so never mind about her generally.)

But I think it's true for friendships as well. If your friendship is set up to be mostly about the other person and what they want and what they want to write and them getting you into their fandoms but never coming into your fandoms with you, then it's not going to change later. Now you have a certain role in their life and they're not thinking about what's fair, but about the ways in which they depend on you to play out your role--which is why they get so mad when you don't. Hey, you've accepted the situation all this time, so why shouldn't you continue to accept it?

In my experience all you can do is move on to a new relationship that isn't set up that way, and learn from it, and let that old relationship die down.
