The show might be entertaining (not to me tbh), but it's not philosophical, deep, meaningful and the story is very badly thought through.
I don't hate the show - I just hate that it got the reputation of being philosophical or something, when it's just another averagely dumb TV show filled with quasi-philosophy that everybody jumps to proclaim awesome not to be confused with the 'stupids' who 'just don't get it'.

You come off as completely ignorant of philosophy and religion by making this statement as well as being one of "the 'stupids' who 'just don't get it'." It only takes an attention span of more than ten seconds as well as the ability to think beyond the surface meaning to actually get what's going on behind the script and nice scenery.

Nice. Explain it to me then. We can discuss philosophy once one of us actually says something of substence. (The goal of my comment wasn't to explain why Lost's 'philosophy' is crap so I didn't, now that you want to go into it we can talk business gurl)

I agree; I am often annoyed by the sort of cheap faux-/pop-/quasi-philosophy that one finds so often in media, and which makes many fans think that their fandom material is OMG SO DEEP.

Exactly.

EXACTLY.

And yet me and other fans who have followed this show over the years do find it "deep and meaningful". And no, not only because we want some epic argument as to why LOST is a very good and inspiring show. Because I honestly think so. Upon re-watching the show nowadays and paying more attention to details all the way up to the series finale, I am baffled by the sense of detail and how things tie together. The LOST encyclopedia further proves this plus the writer's amazing research upon creating this show.

It may not be everyone's cup of tea, and I suppose not everyone will find it "deep and meaningful" (if you're not entertained, it's kind of a problem lol!) but it's not a "badly thought through" story.

Different anon here, but I'd like to point out that something can be complex (which is what you seem to be arguing - sense of detail, etc.) without being profound.

I think the argument here is that Lost isn't especially profound, and that it doesn't have anything new/exciting to say about the human condition/nature of reality/epistemology/other philosophical topics. Yet many fans seem to think that it is really Deep in that sense.

AYRT

You know, different people can find meaning in different things. I think it's great and completely valid for you to find something meaningful in Lost, I just don't think Lost itself has more of it to offer than most other TV shows (which some people will find meaning in too and that's ok).

As to why I think the show was poorly thought through, well, it changed freakin genres like 10 times out of nowhere for one thing...
