Excuse yourself. No one's saying you have to have kids. It's just sad that there are people capable of doing something they have no interest in doing while other people's hearts are breaking because they can't do it. No one's blaming you for anything so calm down.

The sad part is that I'd do it if it were a choice. I'm not planning on using my uterus so why not let someone else have it?

I mean, it'd be a really loaded, complicated process (the whole ZOMG YOU'RE DONATING PRESHUS FEMALE ORGANZZZ, WHAT IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MIIIIND thing) but I'm surprised that it's never really been proposed. I don't want to be a surrogate (the idea of being pregnant period weirds me out) so why not just let someone carry their own child with a donated organ if their own isn't doing it for them?

The thought sounds great but it's a lot more complicated than donating a uterus. Hormones are a huge issue. Without hormones being excreted at the right amount and the right time could result in miscarriage, and it's not easy to keep track of medications for something that the capable body can easily do on its own (just based on what I've learned in pharmaceutics.) Or other mishaps could happen. I'm sure people have thought about it, about donating uterus to people who want it, but the process of creating life is going to be insanely hard. But maybe someday it'll be a reality, who knows? :)

Oh yes, believe me - I know that it's... it wouldn't be an easy thing, to say the least. It's not like... I don't know, replacing an organ, because pregnancy can go wrong for a number of reasons excluding a perfectly functional uterus.

I just... I throw up my hands and go, "LIFE IS HARD. WHY CAN'T IT JUST BE EASY TO GIVE AWAY A UTERUS." y so complicated, human body ;A;

The annoying part there is, even if you have your uterus removed just for not wanting babies, then it will disturb other hormonal processes in your body because everything is interconnected. It's a pity exchange isn't so easy.

Also some boob swapping service where women who want enlargements can swap with women who want reductions...

Actually, removing the ovaries is what causes the disruptions in hormonal processes. Just taking out the uterus doesn't affect that. I had a hysterectomy last May, and I still have PMS and other symptoms associated with my periods like I used to - just not the periods themselves or the associated cramping. It's very nice. :-)

Not likely. Mine had to come out because it had nine pounds' worth of fibroid tumor attached to it (meaning, instead of the ol' vaginal "yank" method of removal, they had to cut me open like an old-skool C-section). In this country, doctors don't take out a uterus without a reason like that, I don't think; at least in my contacts with women who've wanted one, without a medical "reason" for it.

that's sort of what I expected. From what I understand, even a plain sterilization is quite hard to get if you never had kids...I even heard stories of women being refused IUD's. It just sounds nice never having to worry again...

Oh, I have a friend who is 30 and has had severe period problems since she was 17 or 18; she even had to have a bunch of fibroids removed from her uterus two years ago - but because she has no children, no doctor she's consulted will take it out. (It should be noted she doesn't want children and has said for the past 12 years she doesn't; I believe her.)

Actually I live in a (I suspect) more secular society, but they're still reluctant to do on on terms of "might change their minds" and "we do not want to be held accountable when they do."

So I'm guessing it's less about religion (here), but the deeply-rooted belief that every woman secretly wants children. And if she doesn't, she's in denial....

Actually, it's more of a legal problem. But I think that legal problem (here, at least) stems from religious pressure that makes women feel guilty for not wanting children, getting abortions, not marrying, etc. etc. - and then taking that frustration out on filing lawsuits and speaking out against these procedures. That's what I meant, though not phrased very fully or well.

The irony of the matter, of course, is that sterilization is one of the surest ways to cut abortion rates.
But I think I have an idea about the people you're referring to, and I wouldn't exactly expect them to be open to things like logic or reasoning....

The funny thing is (or sad thing), that apparently in a more secular and less lawsuit-prone environment they still won't do it, because they do not consider young women to be able to be "sure enough" about such a life changing decision. Though-one questions if they're "sure enough" to have children at that age, and that's probably much more life-changing.
