Actually I live in a (I suspect) more secular society, but they're still reluctant to do on on terms of "might change their minds" and "we do not want to be held accountable when they do."

So I'm guessing it's less about religion (here), but the deeply-rooted belief that every woman secretly wants children. And if she doesn't, she's in denial....
