I spent so long trying to explain to my father that I can't get on with Porridge, despite liking almost everything about it, because I can't stand Fletch, and Dad was all 'he's not a Gary Stu, he's just someone who's figured out how to use the system to his advantage, and of course he has flaws, he's a criminal'.
YEAH, NOT BEING A GARY STU EXPLAINS PERFECTLY WHY HE'S EVERYONE'S BEST FRIEND (EVEN HIS ENEMIES WUV HIM), HE GETS EVERYTHING RIGHT, HE'S AUTOMATICALLY RIGHT AT ALL TIMES AND HIS WORST FAILURES ARE GENERALLY MASSIVE SUCCESSES, AND OH GOD THE SUN SHINES OUT OF HIS ARSE AT ALL TIMES. FFFRRRRRGH SMARMY CREEP

He's such a boring character because he's always right and he always has a big speech about it. I'd rather the series focus on the dickish prison guard (who's name i've forgotten).
