As established in yesterday's post, the marketing for Megamind was garbage and totally deceptive. I felt the same way.

x2
i never expected it to be as awesome as it was. and it had a lot more heart than i expected.

[identity profile] netbug009.livejournal.com 2011-01-16 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd feel bad too if I assumed somebody was gonna be a "kids film" because it's animated before I saw it. :/

[identity profile] bleed-peroxide.livejournal.com 2011-01-16 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't have much hope for the film until my friends (who both adored it) convinced me to give it a shot. I'd only seen one trailer months before, so thankfully none of the recent ones spoiled it for me. The marketing for the film was pure shit.

Yessssssssssss *cackles* You should join us over on [livejournal.com profile] megamind_movie

Urgh, the marketing. That fart joke trailer...

Glad you liked the film anon, even if you're now hiding that from your friends. Maybe you could just admit you were pleasantly surprised and mistaken? Would your friends even make that big a deal out of it? :)

are you for real? Just tell your friends, jesus. You talked it down before you saw it, no one's going to laugh at you for being pleasantly surprised.

Marketing = Crap
Megamind = Beauty

The End

[identity profile] madamotaku.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Secrets like this make me smile smugly. I love to see more Megamind love! I've kind of hidden my obsession from some friends and family too, OP. I kind of do that with all my fandom obsessions though. ^^;

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
You...you can't admit to your friends that you were wrong about a movie? Even just by saying "I liked it!" Really?

Wow, that's messed up.

[identity profile] demishock.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, but by not telling them you're missing out on all kinds of opportunities to discuss the movie with your friends, who obviously liked it, too! :(

[identity profile] knuddeluff.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Now that I've seen it, I can tell it's pretty fun!

[identity profile] wicked-seraph.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Dreamworks doesn't seem to do a very good job of promoting their work at all. HTTYD had absolutely shitty trailers that made me dislike the movie before it was even released; I went to go see it and ended up loving it. The exact same thing happened with Megamind.

Dreamworks should fucking fire their marketing/promotion team because honestly, the only reason that HTTYD didn't fail is word-of-mouth, and Megamind's sales have been less-than-stellar because of their failtastic promos. Not to mention the lack of merch.

[identity profile] stlg13bomber.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's because they think they need to accentuate the comedy, when what they really need to play up is the storyline and drama. They need to take a page out of Pixar's book.

[identity profile] wicked-seraph.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. They're not horrible at storytelling, but you wouldn't know it from the previews.
