Yeah, I kind of agree. Especially for the characters who actually have strong characterization and personality on the show, like Rachel (besides, it's basically a fact in Hollywood that Lea Michele is 98% Rachel Berry in real life). I can see people like Dianna Agron doing well otherwise, if only because she's pretty and blonde and Quinn isn't that strong of a presence, doesn't have an overbearing personality on the show.

(Anonymous) 2011-01-16 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe because of what you sad about Argon, but she's in an upcoming movie--as near as I can tell, she's the main love interest in this: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/dreamworks/iamnumberfour/. Lea Michele is also going to be in...something...upcoming. And I think Cory Montieth, too. Not to mention Harry Shum was already in some dancing movie.

....

I don't know why I know all this. I swear I'm not a huge Glee nerd, but I do watch a lot of movie trailers.

(Anonymous) 2011-01-17 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
No you're totally right. A lot of them are already or will be in various outside projects in the coming year. I disagree with this secret completely.

[identity profile] hello-ilu.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, Cory Monteith's in something with Selena Gomez- idr the name or anything but it's coming out this year, I think?

(Anonymous) 2011-01-16 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
See that always annoys me ("besides, it's basically a fact in Hollywood that Lea Michele is 98% Rachel Berry in real life") because until you meet the person for yourself, what you see of them is what Hollywood wants you to and for some reason Tabloids have a serious hate on the girl. There are just as many people saying she's basically a nice, hard working person as their are willing to tell you she is her character. Just buying into it is pretty irresponsible imo.

(Anonymous) 2011-01-17 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, not this shit. She's gaining that reputation in Hollywood, and I don't think it's because people just have an unnatural hate-on for her. Plus, in her Broadway days she was kind of notorious for being stuck-up. And I'm pretty sure that she and other people involved with the show say that she's very similar to Rachel (and that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing). I mean, with celebrities, we use what little we know about them to form opinions on their personalities and character. Don't cast stones unless you can honestly, without a shred of a doubt say that you've never formed an opinion about a celebrity that you haven't actually met. And if you can say that, then you must be an anomaly or some kind of automaton.
ext_6866: (WTF?)

[identity profile] sistermagpie.livejournal.com 2011-01-16 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
First, I think Hollywood's pretty much gotten over that idea that nobody can handle somebody in a different role.

Second, even if they did wonder about it why would they worry about these characters? They're a dozen bland kids playing basically ordinary roles as high school students.
ext_1329685: Image of Donald Glover grinning and wearing glasses. (glee - not that kind of girl)

[identity profile] cherrycoloured.livejournal.com 2011-01-16 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't think that. In fact, I feel like it's quite the opposite, that producers will see it as, "Oh, built in fanbase for our project!"

[identity profile] cindyisboring.livejournal.com 2011-01-16 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Zac Efron is doing pretty well in his new roles though.

Though I admit, when I was watching Inception, I kept on referring JGL's character as Tommy.

[identity profile] imouto.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, me too. JGL will always be Tommy Solomon to me. I remember seeing GI Joe and laughing like an asshole whenever he was onscreen.

[identity profile] xenafox.livejournal.com 2011-01-16 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
What lol? That's silly.

(Anonymous) 2011-01-16 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
If we follow that line of thought, every actor in every successful show would be unemployed though.
If they don't get starring roles after Glee is because the writers don't give them good material to work with.

[identity profile] hermione-vader.livejournal.com 2011-01-16 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you have a point, at least for Lea, Chris, and Cory. I'm not completely sure about the others.

(Anonymous) 2011-01-17 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. I think Chris could go either way. I hope he gets cast in at least one other thing - I find Kurt pretty one-note and I'd like to see what else CC can do.

I think if nothing else Lea will be able to get stage work. I don't honestly expect to see a whole lot more of Cory after he finishes on Glee.

[identity profile] xerxes92.livejournal.com 2011-01-16 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure producers WANT that sort of thing, it brings in viewers.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure that when it comes to television, especially sitcoms, hoping that people will watch a show because it's "That Character"'s new show is more or less their bread and butter.

[identity profile] hako-neko.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Lol. No. If anything, they'll probably use the actors' GLEE fame to bring in an audience who enjoys their work.

[identity profile] dynus.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's my thought too.

[identity profile] hello-ilu.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I thought people did that with everything...

uhhhh. maybe I'm just doing it weird.

(Anonymous) 2011-01-17 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Uhh. Nope. Pretty sure producers have never given a shit whether or not people relate characters to past roles.

[identity profile] elica.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh look ! That's that hot guy of ER in Robert Rodriguez' movie ! How could they cast him ?"
"Oh noes ! This boy from this shitty sitcom, how could they cast him with Robert De Niro ? He shouldn't do movies !"
And so on
And so on
And so on

[identity profile] elica.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
Oh the most recent one. How could Zachary Quinto have been cast as Spock ? So wroooooooong...
