Also adding that, while I do not enjoy writing smut for my fandom(s) (I find I just am not good at it), I do occasionally enjoy reading some about my favorite characters. Or...would, if there was any. /eyeballs fandom.
(Most of our smut is limited to a kink meme, anyway.)
That said, I feel it's silly to judge a fandom based off of the fanfiction found in it. 'Fic with smut can be deep and intriguing-- and about a lot more than just the sex, too, while we're on the Honesty Bandwagon. By that same token, the fluffy stuff can be introspective, and the introspective stuff can have some smut in it. Judging a fandom or the people in it is a really big waste of everyone's time. (They could be writing more porn! Or doing art! Or writing introspective stuff! It'd be a much better use of time IMO.)
tl;dr, I agree, it's not cool to insult someone just because someone likes things that you don't/or is more into something you aren't.
(OP, write whatever you want and don't feel guilty about it.)

(Anonymous) 2011-01-16 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)Most of the time when I try to write a PWP, it ends up being some deep character piece. Yes, it has sex in it, but it says something about the characters involved. Sometimes I wonder why I can't just write a PWP and be done with it!
