I hate that kind of thing so much that I usually just press back immediately. Especially if I actually had to think for a second about what character the inane description could even be referring to. You know how most advice books tell you not to use verbs other than 'said' after speech? It's because you automatically skim that word, so it doesn't register very much and doesn't get distracting or repetitive. Same thing here; you skim common character names and pronouns, so no, the repetitive excuse does not hold water. The descriptions are just jarring and awkward, not interesting or fresh.
