Plus, because of the constant art shifting we've seen between artists (starting around the 80's I think) it's really important to keep certain qualities straight otherwise you just can't tell who anyone is. Bruce Wayne will always be white with blue eyes and black hair. He'll be really big (to distinguish him from Dick/Tim/Jason) and wear nice suits (to distinguish him from Clark) or really goofy party clothes (while Clark is still wearing an ugly suit).
I still feel that saying "Remember that time Nightwing got married? Yeah, neither do we." is a lot different than saying "Yeah, she used to be Asian, but the artist forgot, so deal with it."
