To add, I'm not saying the government should have no interest in social policies. By all means, if welfare needs to exist, keep it. I'm just saying that if you're going to go around claiming to be for the people, you might as well actually talk to a few of them. Too many of you kids think just posting statistics without actually thinking about the people behind them or how history just was is a good enough case to win your argument.
Like I said, sure, it might be difficult to get somewhere in life, and that's why there's a lot of people who either don't want to or simply don't. But there are people out there (and there have always been people) who came into this country (either born into it or actually literally came here) from crappy conditions, started out with very little, and managed to work their way up to having something. The ones I'm thinking of in particular are the immigrants, and they have fascinating stories you'll probably want to check out now and then.
