But what's most annoying is that she never actually has to work hard to get her weapon. It is LITERALLY handed to her. This is annoying, especially since Riku got a WHOLE GAME showing how he he becomes worthy to wield the keyblade.
And the cherry on top the pile of shit that was her character arc? (I don't know if you mind BBS secret ending spoilers or not, but if you do you should probably skip to the next paragraph). She ends up back where she started, agreeing to sit back on her ass while Sora and Riku go on another adventure. And from the previews of the 3DS game, she's apparently back on the island making seashell charms or some shit, because Sora and Riku get important things to do and she's just a pile of wasted potential.
I honestly get the feeling that Nomura either doesn't care about her character, or doesn't know what to do with her. Probably a mixture of both. Namine is a perfect example of a character who actually does stuff, and is well-liked by most of the fandom, even by the people who dislike Kairi. That's because she is well-developed, capable, and has a well-rounded character arc and personality. And she doesn't fight, not even once. But if you want to assume that everyone hates Kairi because she doesn't kick ass, go right on ahead. You'd be wrong, but go right on ahead. A lot of people don't like her because she doesn't really DO anything. While characters like Riku and Namine move the plot, she is constantly being moved and pushed around by it.
I'm not saying that there isn't a lot of fandumb surrounding Kairi. There is. But to say that there's no reason to dislike Kairi is simply untrue.
