I tend to agree. Rebuild just isn't the same. The way they've changed it just doesn't mesh well with why I liked the original. But hey, if other fans like Rebuild, more power to them. It's not my bag.

In b4 cry moar, changed it now it sucks, etc.

But they changed it and it does suck.:(

I haven't watched Rebuild yet, but otherwise I agree. I love the ending, I thought it was really touching.

If Shinji actually mans up, saves the world, and gets the girl, my mind will be blown.

Also, if Kaworu doesn't make out with him in his sleep, I will be angry with rage.

This, pretty much. It's like they're trying to make a different character out of him, which is pretty much missing the point, imo.

I think Rebuild is okay, it doesn't suck completely as many die-hard fans say (imo). We have to take into account that Anno's state of mind was the biggest influence in the show, so it figures the vibes would change now that he's "better". Sure, I agree that it doesn't feel like Evangelion in so many ways, but it's kind of hard to fit everything in the movies and still keep all the subtle hints and scenes. The only thing I didn't like much was how they changed some scenes concerning Asuka and Rei, but the ones they added (specially the "Thank you" scene) satisfied me a lot.

I do think it's too pretentious to say that if you didn't like the ending you missed the point. I liked (I was surprisingly very pleased compared to other fans) both endings, although I prefer a mix of both (tv show and EoE). But I'm still looking forward to what Anno has in store for us this time.

The only things I didn't like about the Rebuild movies (so far) is that they seem to be trying to make Asuka and Rei a little more stereotypically "moe", whereas in the 90s show Asuka was just a bratty little girl and Rei was supposed to be creepy. Otherwise, it's all good fun. :)

I enjoy the Rebuild for different reasons than I enjoyed the TV show. Some of the new Angel designs are fun as are the new fight sequences. I'm also really looking forward to more Kaworu scenes.

Honestly, anything that can attract new fans to the series is okay with me. In the end, I think that's the point of the Rebuild.

Exactly. It's not necessarily a "remake", but more of an alternative version of it. That's why I don't see what's the big deal.

Really, Evangelion without the psych shit is just another giant robot animu.

You forgot the religious stuff too. Making angels into giant monsters ala a super robot series was one of the things I liked most about the series

Forget Shinji, what the fuck happened to Asuka.

I liked the first one (of course it was a compilation movie for the most part). I didn't like Mari (another HOTBLOOD character with no personality, yawn), and while I do enjoy seeing Shinji in more of a take-charge role, I do miss the characters' personalities from the tv series. They took all the crazy away AND I DO NOT LIKE IT

I'm not really a fan of the new mechanical designs and plugsuit redesigns, either

We've barely seen 10 mins. of Mari. It's kind of hard to determine a personality in such a short time, and even then we saw some glimpses of it (she commented to Shinji how she also had doubts about piloting Eva despite having seen her so into it in the other scenes). I don't get the Mari-hate.

And tbh, almost all the characters in the movie seem to have "no personality" if you haven't seen the series. So, it's obvious that Mari would be highly underdeveloped in contrast with the others.

I'm convinced Rebuild is actually a sequel to the original series, and not a re-imagining or reboot or whatever. There are a lot of things pointing to that being the big reveal and Gainax trolling us.

Unless they're trolling us by planting those hints at them planning to troll us.

Agreed. Too much fanservice. It's lovely eyecandy though.

If by "the point", you mean Anno's state of mind and wonderful budget money. NGE isn't as deep as you think it is. It's fun, but it's not so clever that viewers are going to miss important details. However, they can get frustrated by it. My little sister dubbed those latter episodes and monologues in the train as acid trips. You sound like those people in Lost fandom that can't understand why a lot of people were unsatisfied with the finale to that.

It's not hard to get.

As far as the rebuild movies go, I like them. They're like alternate endings, routes, or just plain re-tellings. Like the manga. Oh, how I wish more people read the manga.
