Granted, I'm sort of playing devil's advocate since my personal headcanon is that each of the three is in love with both of the other two and they should just make with the polyamory. But I think you can support any ship between the three as long as you remember that they still love whoever's left over, just in a different way.

Not into the whole shipping thing when it comes to this game, but having played the series in both Japanese and English I would definitely lean towards the former. Or in other words, not a lover, but more than a friend. The dialogue in the original version has a lot more sentimentality to it (though subtle) than could ever be translated into English, sadly.
