Your 'meat is not necessary' could also be seen as utterly ignorant as people still need the damn proteins/vitamins/oils in meat to live.

No, really, I promise you, I'm not a zombie. I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] cypherwulf isn't, either.

On a serious note, I think there can be a degree of classism or city-centrism among vegans, where it doesn't occur to everyone that some people -- usually poorer people -- live in areas that are basically food deserts, and where access to the necessaries for a healthy vegan diet is not always feasible. This is one of the reasons why I don't think judging or shaming people for not being veg is the way forward, and I think it's often disregarded when people try to emphasize how easy it is to be healthy on a vegan diet.

But if you do have access to the resources, and the time/energy to cook your own meals, it's entirely possible, and not that hard. And a blanket statement like the one above is just hilariously wrong.

(Edited b/c I accidentally implied that all vegans were middle-class, and I know that's totally not the case!)
