I think it's interesting that they managed to make a character who is very religious and yet likeable despite that - he's the antithesis of Ashley, who always gets reduced to "bigoted spacist fundamentalist" because of her religion. I think people are a lot more likely to see fictional religions or religions that are not prevalent in their own culture as acceptable and even kind of 'cute', although what this says about our views on religion and culture is questionable.

Personally I didn't much like his religious bent either, especially since it was full of holes and morally dubious (since it kind of gave him an excuse for being a murderer). And Shepard only slightly addresses this in dialogue with him - well, I took mostly paragon options so maybe renegade has the option to say rather more pointed things to him about that...

1.) There are like a million different publishers who own various rights to the book, they are not all going to ~give in.~
