Disney can't win. If they DON'T make a movie with a character from a certain group/religion/color, they're called racist/bigoted/prejudiced, etc. But if they DO make a movie featuring a character from a certain group/religion/color, but do it in JUST the right way, they're called racist/bigoted/prejudiced, etc.

I personally like to call them "indifferent" and "ignorant" because they'll fly an entire team of artists to a Kenyan reserve to study animals for "The Lion King" but they won't pick up a fucking book on a specific group to make sure they address the character's culture "in JUST the right way."

Yeah... I've noticed that. I kinda think it's starting to kill the company, the Princess and the Frog drama was going on months before they'd even sketched out a character design :/

What makes it even sadder is that it's like that with most major companies - and not just in movies, video games can get hit pretty hard with it too. I mean, they should do their research, but there's only so much research you can do - and even if you do something as accurately as you can, there will still be people who are upset.

At the end of the day, you can only do so much and try not to offend anyone too much.

Pretty much. I mean I'd like it if they had more character variety (I'd like it if most media did) but I'm not going to call them racist/bigoted/prejudiced just because most of their characters are white. And I loved The Princess and the Frog.

I'm more inclined to facepalm at companies like Square Enix for trying to throw in "the one black guy" into their games who always looks like some 60s/70s stereotype. It's annoying even if the character is tolerable.
