DA And you don't think coexisting peacefully with the environment can include eating meat?

Eating meat in itself is not harmful, there are a lot of harmful practices in the farming industry sure. But there is nothing bad or evil about being an omnivore. If you believe it is evil, good for you, but you are better off trying to convince people to eat more meat from well taken care of animals then to try to convince people to stop eating meat all together, that's a loosing battle.

Honestly vegans/vegetarians would have a lot more luck changing how animals are treated working with meat eaters rather then trying to alienate them in PETA like practices.

Eating meat is pretty obviously harmful to animals, and if you don't have to eat animals to survive, then we are basically killing them for no reason other than the pleasure of their taste. It is really not much different than killing animals for sport, except it is more mainstream and acceptable.

And I've been an activist for awhile, so from personal experience and research it's actually way more effective for people to become veg than to get an extra 6 inches of space for animals in their cages. In the century that animal welfare has been around, conditions for animals have only gotten worse. That's not even including other uses of animals such as entertainment or vivisection. Convincing people to become veg is way more effective because it hits the root of all those problems and provides a solution that everyone can be a part of. You don't need an organization or lots of money or lawyers to change the world, it's all up to you.

And for the record, I don't like PETA.

You're raising ethical questions and ethics are complicated and not everyone is going to agree. I don't agree that killing animals is inherently bad, animals kills animals, you may not like the "it's natural" argument, but humans are animals, there it is.

You are better off appealing to people's self interests is what I should have said, you are never going to get everyone to go veg, it just won't happen. But if you can show how mistreating animals is harmful in other ways (harmful to the environment) or BETTER YET figure out a way to make it profitable to be kind to animals (sounds dumb but that's really the only way to appeal to people as a whole- profit) then you might have something.
