Actually, with regards to the sparkling, I don't remember if it's actually in the book or if it's just a bit of fanwanking, but it's supposed to stun humans into just kind of staring at the vampire before he/she goes in for the kill, which also allegedly explains how "attractive" they are.

Now what I don't get is the cold, hard, marble skin.
