Can someone explain to me why Jane Eyre is so amazing? I read it and it just felt like a boring romance novel (the first chapter was okay, but it went downhill after that).

I think calling a few books written by rich white people "the basis of Western society" (you spelled BASIS wrong by the way) is a bit much.

Oh my god THANK YOU. Jane Eyre is, to this day, the only book I couldn't FORCE myself to read for the sake of my English class. I gave up about a third of the way through and took my 0 on the unit test like a boss. @__@

I think your problem is that you're reading it as a romance novel. It's not. It's about a woman who struggles to do what is best for her despite all the shit that's thrown at her. Romance really doesn't play much of a role in the book.
