Since there's been some debate about which secrets get linked and which don't, I'd like your input!
Unfortunately, I can't link everything that's NSFW because what's NSFW varies. In some cases, things as commonly found in secrets as profanity in large text would be considered NSFW.
Things currently on the "link" list:
- explicit guro
- explicit nudity (of the pornographic type; art is fine)
- anything containing outright porn
- images that contain common triggers in visual (that is, not text) form (e.g. signs of self-injury, images of dub/non-con between characters, pictures of emaciated human beings. Things like images of real murders and genocide victims have also been used before)
- flashy "seizure" gifs
- anything in which children are sexualized (yes I did go back and link the Boku no Pico one, I'm sorry about that)
None of those things above are up for debate.
But there are times when it's not so clear cut. Like something that is censored but barely, or something that is definitely sexual but isn't explicitly showing any body parts. For example, there's a secret in this week's batch of two half-clothed people, and one is about to reach (consensually) into the other one's pants and is halfway there but hasn't quite made it yet, and there's kissing and touching that makes it obvious where it's heading. There's another secret of a character in a dress pulling the skirt part up, with a small censor over the genitalia but otherwise overtly sexualized.
What about things like that?
[Poll #1673008]
Remember, nothing is going to be censored - the secret will be posted like any other, in the body of the post, not in the bar at the bottom - just linked instead of embedded. And some people are more likely to pay attention to secrets linked for being porny anyway, so there's that!

(Anonymous) 2011-01-27 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)An alternative would be, of course, putting the secrets in question (sexual, not quite explicit stuff etc.) on the bottom of the page. With the spoilers and the trigger secrets. That way people at work/people with strict parents or whatever can just start reading the secrets, and then stop when they arrive at the big red warning that says, "the following secrets are NSFW, don't read if you're in public." I think that would be a lot nicer for everyone.

(Anonymous) 2011-01-27 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)But if people expect you to make some sort of decision about this - why not just put the secrets you'd usually link at the bottom, instead of, well, linking them? If you are going to link stuff, you have to decide about what to link and what to embed as well.

Relating to the topic, linking pornish things makes sense. Linking nudes that are creatively hiding their privates is a little silly. The picture of the fully-clothed couple obviously on the way to sexy times but not actively groping the private parts is not quite porn. Or, at least, not something you should link.
I think it's a good idea to link to triggery things and outright porn. However, you've been warning people of NSFW secrets for years. If they can't deal with the content because they don't like it, you shouldn't bend over to accommodate them beyond what's reasonable. (aka triggers for sure.)
I think you've been an incredibly gracious moderator, by the way. You've made a lot of accommodation where you didn't need to move if you didn't want to, and you have. Thank you for all the hard work you've put into F!S. :)

Basically, this. There are already warnings in each post that some secrets are NSFW. It's basically a "read at your own risk" kind of thing. People really shouldn't be surfing the net if they're at work anyway, imo, but YMMV on that.
Mild and suggestive nudity, you know what, I consider SFW. Another poster a few threads up mentioned seeing "barely passable" sexuality in the media anyway, so I like to think that the general population, who wouldn't be offended by the billboards and magazine ads, probably wouldn't get offended here on the internet (then again... you never know).
Hardcore porn, self-harm, gore, triggers, all that stuff... yeah, link it. I'd consider the softer stuff to be more tasteful and appropriate for the body of the F!S post, whereas the more hardcore stuff should be limited to links and tigger-y section at the bottom.
It's not like EVERY secret is NSFW - in fact, I find those to be quite a limited supply. Ultimately,
Erring on the side of caution is one thing, but it's another to 'censor' every little bit of possibly nudity and sexuality at the risk of offending someone. Like I said, the warning ("some secrets are NSFW") is there, and people need to remember it.
