I don't even ship them, but I can't stop reading the fic. I suppose someday I should figure out what couple I'm attempting to mentally replace them with, or something.

This happens to me with other couples, too, especially in this series and I don't know why, because all the actors are attractive. I guess RPF squicks me a little. Not all the time, though. So, I don't really know what it is.

Well, Alan Rickman is much older than the character's supposed to be in the book. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Then again, I just wrote a story about a character played by the same actor who plays Peter Pettigrew nonconsensually humping somebody's leg, so I'm really not one to deconstruct these things.

I COULD HAVE MADE THIS SECRET. I love Alan Rickman, but picturing him and Emma is just... ick to the infinite degree. Also, HBP and Deathly Hallows kinda ruined the fun of this pairing for me, it turned into an even bigger angstfest than it was before. Where are the sarcastic banter fics from back in the day :-(.

HBP wasn't so bad, but after DH...well, it just became miserable.

I miss the fics that were pouring out between GoF and OotP, where it was all pretty much "hermione grows up, runs into Snape, they snarkily argue back and forth before realizing that they actually go really well together"

Whenever I read the books I always see my own version of the characters in my head. The weird thing is, I have completely separate versions of them for fanfic lol. The actors don't get into my mind at all, except for Rupert sometimes. But that's because he is he sexiest creature ever.

Word! I have that same issue with every HP pairing-- when I read fic, I picture the characters as my own headcanon image of how they look, but if I start thinking about the actors, it's totally ruined.

In fic I picture Alan Rickman circa Robin Hood Price of Thieves. I can't picture Emma as Hermione, though. So yes, OP, you're very right. Character-wise they are perfect.

I love SSHG but Alan/Emma creeps me out. The age gap there is muuuuuuuch larger for them than for Hermione/Snape. This is why the fanvideos especially creep me out.

I'm more of a Snape/McGonagall fan myself, but I feel your pain on the "can't picture the actor while reading shipfic" front. There are certain actors who are guaranteed libido-killers for me, even when they're playing a character I had the hugest fictional crush on in the original source. Like the guy who plays Holmes in Sherlock - ACD!book!Holmes? Basil Rathbone? Jeremy Brett? RDJ? All sexy. What's-his-name the elf boy? Not so much.
